What are the author's purposes in the American short story named 'A curious dream'?

In my point of view, the deeply meaning of this short story is to sarcasm the Americans.
The messages behind the humorous and supernatural parts are to remind Americans
to pay proper respect to their ancestors and to invite America’s citizens to make
local improvements and take care of the memorial parks.

A Curious Dream was quite funny making people laugh but there’re something serious inside.
It was impossible that how the skeletons wake up and talked to human; it sounded like fun.
But there’re something he meant the reader to think along the story.
I think he wanted to bring the reader to think of their ancestors in the grave.
He wanted the story to be from the real people so he built the character of waking up skeleton
who represented the American ancestors to talk to the man who represented new generation of American people nowadays.
